Bumper fascia coating

See how to properly repair the paint of bumper fascias using NOVOL SPRAY products.

Shopping list:
  • SPRAY PREFILL + – basecoat matching the vehicle’s paint colour code
  • PLUS 780 – silicone degreaser
  • BUMPER FIX – putty for plastics
  • ACRYLIC PRIMER
  • STRUCTURE TOPCOAT – textured topcoat
  • CLEARCOAT
  • SPECTRAL EXTRA 895 – fade out thinner
  • SPRAY PLASTIC PRIMER – fade out thinner
  • masking materials: NOVOL masking paper or protective film; painter’s tape
  • paper towel
  • grey abrasive cloth
  • small sanding block
  • tack rag
  • plastic spreader

Wash the work surface thoroughly with water and a detergent, follow by degreasing with the PLUS 780 silicone degreaser.

Mask the adjacent non-work area.

Smooth out the damaged spot of original paint with P180-240 grit paper.

Blow off the dust.

Degrease with PLUS 780 again.

If required, use the BUMPER FIX putty for plastics to level out the damaged spot.

Sand the putty with the following paper grit sizes in this order: P180-P280-P320.

Blow off dust and degrease with PLUS 780.

Sand the putty with the following paper grit sizes in this order: P180-P280-P320.

low off dust and degrease with PLUS 780.

Apply the PLASTIC PRIMER to the sanded down areas to promote adhesion.

Apply the ACRYLIC PRIMER to the repaired surface.

VERSION A

Matching the original paint colour.

Order the SPRAY PREFILL basecoat to match the body paint colour code.
Apply the basecoat to the work area.

Wipe the basecoat area with a tack rag.

Apply the CLEARCOAT.

If needed, apply the EXTRA 895 fade out thinner in two very thin layers along the area where the original paint meets the fresh CLEARCOAT.

VERSION B

Textured finish.

If you want to obtain a textured finish resembling the original plastic surface, apply the STRUCTURE TOPCOAT in the colour of choice (black or anthracite).
