Wheel rim coating

See how to properly coat wheel rims using NOVOL SPRAY products

Shopping list:
  • PLUS 780 – silicone degreaser
  • ACRYLIC PRIMER
  • WHEEL SPRAY – wheel rim paint
  • CLEARCOAT
  • SOFT PLUS multifunctional putty or FINISH finishing putty
  • tack rag
  • red abrasive cloth
  • plastic spreader
  • masking materials: NOVOL masking paper or protective film; painter’s tape
  • paper towel

Thoroughly wash the wheel rim with water and a detergent.

Degrease with the PLUS 780 silicone degreaser.

Smooth out the damaged spot of original paint (scuff marks etc.) with P180-P240 grit sandpaper.

Blow off dust and degrease with PLUS 780.

If required, fill out original paint defects with the SOFT PLUS or the FINISH putty.

  • mixing ratio: 2-3g of hardener to 100g of putty
  • mixture pot life: 4-6min
  • drying time: 20-35min/20°C

Smooth out the applied putty with P280-P320 grit paper.

Blow off dust and degrease with PLUS 780.

Apply the ACRYLIC PRIMER to the repaired surface.

  • shake for 2 min
  • apply in 2 or 3 layers
  • flash-off time between layers: 5-10 min
  • drying time: 15-30 min/20°C or 15 min/60°C
  • blow the nozzle clean for 5 s

Wet sand with P400-P500 or P800-P1000 grit paper.

Blow off dust and degrease with PLUS 780.

Apply the WHEEL SPRAY in the colour of choice.

  • shake for 2 min
  • apply in 2 to 4 layers
    flash-off time between layers: 5-10 min
  • drying time: 2h/20°C
  • blow the nozzle clean for 5 s

If you do not want a matt finish typical of the WHEEL SPRAY, finish by applying the CLEARCOAT.

  • blow the nozzle clean for 5 s
