SHRINKAGE OF COATINGS
Shrinkage of coatings due to solvent evaporation.
Causes
- applying too thick layers of primer,
- wrong amount of thinner (HS primers),
- first layer of the primer is too thick,
- too short a drying time,
- insufficient drying of primer and putty layers,
- too thin an insulation layer.
Prevention
- make solvent test,
- isolate with the use of twocomponent primer applied with several thin layers with keeping time for thinner evaporation,
- avoid sanding topcoats.
Repair
Sand and apply coat again.
